It is not unusual to come across children suffering from headache. And the commonest cause of headache, even in little children is migraine. Refractive errors of the eye are not the main causes of headache in children.
These often incapacitating headaches are characterized by their sudden onset and accompanying symptoms of nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and relief with sleep. Treatment consists of identifying and avoiding trigger factors in the environment, giving immediate pain relief, and starting prevalence drugs. It is important however to rule out other serious causes of headache regardless of the presenting features.
Children with migraine headache often improve with trigger control and rest and sleep during the acute attack.
